Trap Them – “Séance Prime”
Deathwish Inc. 2007
by George Skafidas email
Sonically raging and lyrically profound, Trap Them incorporate the best of crust, d-beat, grindcore and old-school hardcore into a near perfect mix that’s entirely their own.
After two highly acclaimed works (Cunt Heir to the Throne + Sleepwell Deconstructor) on New England ’s Trash Art! label, the American quartet released its Deathwish Inc. debut entitled “Séance Prime” on October 2007.
A four-song 7inch/CDEP clocking in at around 12 minutes, “Séance Prime” finds the band in perfectly “crusty” shape rotting and rolling the d-beat way.
Herein you’ll find shades of Cursed (The Iconflict), Nasum (Citizenihilist) and Discharge (The Protest Hour) interfused with razor-sharp, dazzling guitar lines, infuriated barks and revengeful, chorus-free lyrics.
Ryan McKenney (ex Backstabbers Inc.) spits disillusion in the face of a pious, warmongering world, Brian Izzi (ex December Wolves) detonates explosive guitar chords, Nat Coghlan (Transistor Transistor) lays the bass lines, Scott DeFusco drives the rhythm, Kurt Ballou (Converge) sits on the sound engineer’s throne and their offspring, “Séance Prime”, lives up to the hype surrounding its progenitors.
Along with Blacklisted’s “Heavier than heaven…”, the best of the fresh Deathwish Inc. releases.
